Instem Breaks Through Legacy Modernisation Barriers with Agentic AI Ellipse

Instem partnered with Godel to successfully put agentic AI into production, rapidly modernising its flagship scientific software platforms as part of a wider agentic AI transformation strategy, focused on Anthropic’s Claude to enable the next generation of AI-native products.

Building on the strength of its established scientific software platforms, Instem recognised an opportunity to accelerate the next phase of modernisation through agentic AI. Instem wanted a partner that could move beyond theory and help us apply AI in production in a practical, scalable way, Mick Davison, SVP of Engineering at Instem, explains.

Instem’s technology plays a critical role in helping scientists manage and document preclinical studies, including monitoring dosing, side effects and adverse reactions before generating regulatory submissions for bodies such as the FDA. Like many organisations with deeply embedded, business-critical platforms, Instem recognised an opportunity to modernise faster and more efficiently: the need to modernise was obvious, but the economics of doing it the old way were hard to defend.

“We knew we needed a partner that genuinely understood where agentic AI is heading. A lot of organisations want to be in that space, but with Godel it was clear they were already living and breathing it. That maturity around agentic AI transformation was one of the major reasons we chose to work with them.”

As part of the transformation with Claude -powered agents now running in production, Instem has started accelerating the modernisation of its core platform. The next-generation system, built on Microsoft Azure, is creating the cloud foundation for modern SaaS delivery and future AI-enabled capabilities.

“We’d looked at modernising technology before but using traditional engineering approaches it was going to be extremely expensive and take a long time,” Mick Davison added. “Leveraging Claude’s technology changes how we approach that challenge – it gives us an opportunity to accelerate modernisation while also transforming how our teams work internally.”

The partnership’s impact has already taken form. Development cycles are moving significantly faster, while the removal of Citrix infrastructure is helping to reduce operational overhead. Most importantly, Instem now has a credible route forward for a transformation programme that once looked too costly, too slow and too difficult to deliver.

The partnership extends beyond the modernisation – Instem sees the programme as an opportunity to accelerate its wider AI transformation strategy, combining its own rapidly evolving capabilities with Godel’s experience of deploying agentic AI into production.

Joe Wolski, CTO at Godel, said: “This is exactly the kind of transformation many businesses are now facing – organisations aren’t just modernising technology anymore, they’re rethinking how business processes operate and workflows are built.”

“Instem already had strong internal momentum and a clear vision for where it wanted to go. Our role has been to bring the delivery model, AI capability and practical experience needed to help turn that ambition into something real.”

Results That Matter

With Claude-powered agentic AI now running in production, Instem is starting to overcome the cost, complexity and delivery constraints that have traditionally made legacy modernisation difficult to justify.
