Godel Technologies has always been invested in mentoring people who want to get into tech, guiding their careers and championing growth within the company.

In 2005, Godel started an internship programme, which was reinvented in 2017 into what is known as the Godel Mastery Programme today.  With over 16% of our delivery capacity coming from individuals who were once part of the mastery programme, it’s a key avenue for us to ensure we support and develop new talent, creating the future stars of Godel.

Meet Katsiaryna Syrneva, Junior .Net developer who joined Godel in February 2024 as a Mastery student.  Godel receives a high number of applicants to our mastery programme each year, hiring only 5% of those applicants.  All programme graduates are guaranteed a Godel contract, so it’s important for us to bring in the applicants we are confident will be a fit both technically and with the Godel culture and values we and our partners hold.  The recruitment process is multi-stage, including soft skill assessments and practical coding tasks.  Throughout the process, Kate was impressed with her professionalism, technical knowledge, hunger and ambition – skills we look for in all of our junior team members.

The Mastery courses are developed in house by our Godel divisions.  In Kate’s case, this is .Net.  Courses range between 3-6 months, focusing on creating a ‘real world’ team environment.  Where possible, team members have face-to-face group classes in a Godel office, as well as the 1-1 time with their assigned mentor.  As well as the focus on building technical skills, team members build knowledge of agile methodologies, soft skills, teamwork, Godel cultural values and what it means to work within one of our partnerships.  A typical final assessment includes the team delivering a project, in Kate’s case this project was led by the mastery group with instruction that they needed to create a list of features and break this down into a 1-month roadmap to be delivered.  The team chose to create a medical centre website with the ability to book appointments online following an expansion into a CRM system.

Following Graduation, Kate was keen to accept the Godel contract and officially became one of our team!  Initially assigned to an internal project supporting the development of our Talent Management Portal, Kate was then accepted to work with one of our partners in a non-billable role, bringing the partner additional support to accelerate development, and allowing Kate to continue building her skills and experience.  This process is ideal for graduates to move into partner teams, having a non-billable period allows the junior to continue developing with support from their Godel teammates and Godel mentor.

Within weeks of her assignment, Kate was recognised as a strong addition and discussions started around how the partner and Godel can support her in becoming a permanent team member.

Kate’s Chief Technology and Security Officer commented: “Kate came into the team as a trainee and we quickly realised her skills weren’t being used to her full potential. She assisted and owned some relatively complex tasks integrating with an old technology stack and she did not disappoint. She has shown a real talent for infrastructure-level coding and because of this we are happy and excited to welcome Kate to the team as a full time resource moving towards our very own DevSecOps guru!”

Kate’s Head of Engineering commented:

“Kate joined our team as a junior developer just six months ago, and their progress has been nothing short of impressive. From day one, Kate demonstrated a keen eagerness to learn and a proactive approach to tackling challenges.”

Key Achievements:

  • Rapid Learning Curve: Kate quickly familiarised herself with our codebase and development tools, often staying late to ensure they understood every detail.
  • Problem-Solving Skills: They have a knack for debugging and have resolved several critical bugs that had stumped more experienced team members.
  • Team Collaboration: Kate is a team player, always ready to assist colleagues and contribute to team discussions. Their positive attitude and willingness to ask questions have made them a valuable asset.
  • Innovative Thinking: Kate has already proposed and implemented a few optimisations that have significantly improved our application’s performance.

What Sets Kate Apart:

  • Curiosity and Initiative: Kate doesn’t shy away from complex tasks. Instead, they dive in, research thoroughly, and come up with innovative solutions.
  • Attention to Detail: Their code is clean, well-documented, and follows best practices, making it easier for others to review and build upon.
  • Continuous Improvement: Kate actively seeks feedback and uses it constructively to enhance their skills. They also stay updated with the latest industry trends and technologies.

“In a short time, Kate has proven to be a dedicated and talented developer. Their journey is a testament to what can be achieved with hard work, curiosity, and a collaborative spirit. We are excited to see what Kate will accomplish next! We are so proud to be able to support the early careers of our mastery graduates like Kate, her hard work and dedication is incredible and it’s great to see the value that this is bringing to the partner she works with.”

When speaking to Kate about her achievements so far with Godel, she commented:

“Working within the client’s team, I have experienced immense pleasure and satisfaction in collaborating with such professionals. All my colleagues are incredibly responsive, kind, and always ready to help, which has significantly eased my integration into the project and my understanding of the product as well as the existing codebase. They not only possess high technical skills but also exceptionally developed soft skills, creating a pleasant and productive atmosphere within the team.

I am very grateful for the opportunity to be part of the best team where I can continuously develop and acquire the latest knowledge in current trends. It is gratifying to know that my contributions help advance the product, and I am happy to continue my professional growth alongside the team. The support and mentorship I receive here truly inspire me to strive for new heights and bring maximum benefit to the project.”
