Why we chose to name our company after Kurt Gödel…

Kurt Gödel and Albert Einstein Kurt Gödel was one of the most outstanding scientists of the 20th century.  His work is a perfect example of the efficacy of taking a creative approach to fundamental science.

His great achievements in logic and creativity symbolise what we do, and that is why we chose our name; Godeltech and our slogan, which encapsulates his ethos; "Software Solutions Through Creative Thinking".

Another reason why we named our company after Gödel is that as he was well known for being good friends with Einstein, we are known for being the friend of scientists too, as we often develop software to support their work.

Born in 1906 in the Czech Republic, Gödel graduated from the University of Vienna, where he became interested in mathematical logic and in particular the completeness and consistency of mathematical systems.  At the age of 24, he was awarded a doctorate and a year later published the work that made him famous and is now generally known as the Incompleteness Theorem.

Gödel's Incompleteness Theorem proved that: the system cannot be both consistent and complete, all large-scale systems, including IT-systems are based on this theory.

Wikipedia explain Incompleteness Theorem as follows:  "The basic idea at the heart of the incompleteness theorem is rather simple. Gödel essentially constructed a formula that claims that it is unprovable in a given formal system. If it were provable, it would be false, which contradicts the fact that provable statements are always true. Thus there will always be at least one true but unprovable statement. That is, for any set of axioms for arithmetic, there is a formula which obtains in arithmetic, but which is not provable in that system. To make this precise, however, Gödel needed to solve several technical issues, such as encoding statements, proofs, and the very concept of provability into the natural numbers. He did this using a process known as Gödel numbering." For more info http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Godel.

From 1930 – 1940 Gödel worked at the University of Vienna.  Then on his first trip to the United States he befriended Albert Einstein, who was twice as old as Gödel then (27 vs. 54 years old), their friendship would continue for their whole lives.  When Kurt & his wife had to flee from Nazi Austria in the early 1940’s it was Einstein who helped Gödel get his American citizenship.

By the late 1940's, Gödel was a member of the Institute for Advanced Study in Princeton, and proved the existence of paradox solutions to Einstein's field equations in general relativity.  This development made Albert Einstein doubt his theory; however, it only made their friendship stronger!

Gödel and Einstein remained resident at Princeton and it is reported that in later life Einstein visited the Institute merely to have the privilege of walking home with Gödel.

Gödel was awarded the Albert Einstein Award in 1951, and the National Medal of Science (an honour given by the U.S. president to outstanding scientists) in 1974.  He died in 1978.

Would it be possible to get our product converted from VB to Java? The competition are killing us but we don’t have any Java skills.

No problem, I would suggest using the same product specialist but a different implementation team.

Good, when can you start?

Once we agree the exact scope of the work we can start within one week.
